Week 39 - The PCR Results Are Here
The young Ali stands over the fallen Sonny Liston shouting “get up, get up”. I’ve kept that picture in my mind ever since starting treatment, I even have a big canvas of it in the gym to remind me. Its not the winning that I enjoy, its the fighting and following my 36 week PCR negative result it looks like the fight will continue until next March.
More to follow because, just between us, I’m a little emotional.

OK, from what I found at this web site: http://www.mydr.com.au/default.asp?article=3583, a “PCR negative result” means that there was no virus to be found.
That seems like a good thing.
But why do you continue treatment until March if you don’t have any virus in your body to fight?

Good question!
Firstly the test doesn’t say virus free, it just says it is below the limit of detection. The virus could still be there but at very low levels.
Secondly the test only checks the blood, the virus is believed to “lurk” in other tissues and organs.
We are hopefully mopping up the last few pockets of resistence over the next months.
